Poister for City of Nature challengeFriends of Moston Brook are  delighted to announce that Lancashire Wildlife Trust are running a free City Nature Challenge event at Moston Fairway Nature Reserve,

Help us collect wildlife records for Manchester as part of City Nature Challenge, a recording event where cities across the globe compete to make the most observations of nature. Come to the event and discover how this mossland, unique to Manchester & special to Moston has been restored. Led by knowledgeable Reserve Manager, Martyn Walker.

Numbers are limited so please book in advance. Email Hilary Wood, My Wild City Project Officer to confirm your place:  hwood@lancswt.org.uk  Your confirmation email will contain full details of meeting points and times.

Please wear suitable outdoor clothing, wellies and if you have a smartphone make sure to download iNaturalist from the AppStore or Google Play and give it a go before the event so you can collect records on the day simply using your phone!

What species will you find!?

Free City Nature Challenge event at Blackley Forest Blackley New Rd M9 8FR on Saturday 27th April 2019  8.00 am onwards

Help us collect wildlife records for Manchester as part of City Nature Challenge, Poister for City of Nature challengea national recording event where cities across the globe will be competing to make the most observations of nature and find the most species!

Events will all start and end at Blackley New Road entrance to Blackley Forest,

8am till 9:30am – Dawn Chorus Bird Walk
Wear suitable footwear as paths might be muddy. The route will include steps and is not accessible for wheelchairs or pushchairs. Bring binoculars if you have them. Come along and learn to identify birds from their song, and contribute to wildlife recording on this woodland Local Nature Reserve.

10:30am till 12:30pm – Wildlife Spotting Walk and River Dipping
Wear suitable footwear as paths might be muddy. The route will include steps and is not accessible for wheelchairs or pushchairs. River dipping will be weather dependent and led by a local expert.
Bring your mobile phone to take photos and download the iNaturalist app in advance if you can. We will be identifying and recording as many species as possible during the walk.

Local walks:

Thanks to the invaluable help of a local volunteer Moston Brook have run a number of successful walks in Failsworth & Moston Brook this year & plan to set up a regular programme of local walks. We’ll keep you posted.

Just a final reminder that the Moston Brook Friends Group meeting is on the second Weds of every month, 6.15 pm at the New Moston Club.  Everyone is welcome .
